A Card For a Couple Challenges

Hey there!

I love all the different challenge blogs out there but never seem to enter very many. I don't know why. Maybe it's because there are so many and it seems overwhelming. Maybe it's because after checking them out, I forget about them! Or it could be that I'm online a lot, looking at my favorite blogs, commenting and really enjoying all the creativity and talent out there. Probably a bit of all three!

I've decided I really need to take more time for card making and less time for what I call card gazing. The thing is, I absolutely LOVE seeing what all of you create out there and find myself wanting to comment on everything. It's really hard for me to NOT do that. Anyway, I'm hoping, by jotting down the challenges on a calender and really concentrating more on my OWN card making, I will be able to join the fun in more challenges.

So, I have a card to share with you today and it just so happens to work for two challenges - yay! The Mixed Media Monthly Challenge, which is to use a household product, and the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge, which is all about spots and dots.

Can ya guess what my household product is? See that gray and white patterned panel behind my circle die-cut? That was cut from an empty Kleenex box. I created my own stencil by die-cutting the Mini Stars dies from Simon Says Stamp, then used their Green Apple Ink on the Green Apple die-cut circle, for a tone-on-tone effect. The Small Hello die-cut is also from Simon Says Stamp. I layered five or six of them, offsetting the top, black layer to give a shadow effect on the sentiment.

I mixed some Hero Arts Soft Granite Ink with my white embossing paste and used Tim Holtz's Speckles Stencil for the spotty, dotty background. A few matching, Enamel Dots finish off my card.

Have a wonderful Sunday! I'm hoping to be back soon with another card - maybe it'll even be for another challenge. Fingers crossed! ♥

Wow Barb! I love this card! You used so many elements. Love the Kleenex box panel, the star stencil that you made and that fun background using embossing paste. And what a great idea to layer the die cuts to add interest and dimension. Thanks so much for joining us again this month at The Mixed Media Monthly Challenge.

wonder card Barb - love the colors and design - i'm the same when it comes to "card gazing" - spend more time on that than making them

This card ROCKS!! I love that you used a Kleenex box for that gray background. I am always amazed at people who think outside of the box like you do!!

I so know what you mean by card gazing rather then card making. I always intend to do challenges too and then forget. I need to get a calendar in my room and add stuff like you are going to do. See-I am learning a lot here today from you!!

Wonderful techniques used on a really fabulous card. Have a wonderful night.

I'm so glad you're going to be joining in more challenges, Barb!

I love that you used an empty Kleenex box for your household item...so clever! And, your tone-on-tone stars are fabulous! I also love how you created a shadow for your die cut sentiment, too...it adds so much dimension to this card! You did an amazing job on this card, and it's perfect for both challenges...Good luck!

Brilliantly created card, Barb! Loved this the second I saw it! I know what you mean about getting overwhelmed with all the challenges out there & how there isn't time to see everything & actually make cards--always a struggle for me, especially now with puppy Fritz taking so much of my time.

Creative take on the Mixed Media MC prompt. It would have never occurred to me to use a Kleenex box, and yet it works perfectly for your card. Nice job.
