Not My Usual Style!

Hi!

I sat down the other day and played with some paper, stamps, vellum, flowers, ribbon and a doily die. Definitely not something I normally do. I'm one of those cardmakers who just loves to stamp an image and color it, but I wanted to try something outside of my comfort zone.

I remember seeing a gorgeous card in one of the Paper Crafts issues earlier this year. I tried really hard to find it and couldn't. I believe it was one from Kim Hughes and I really want to give her credit for inspiring me. I find that I mark many of the pages showing her cards each time I get a monthly issue. She has a beautiful style!

Anyway, here's the result of my creative 4 hours - yup - that's correct - FOUR! This card took me a long time to make, ( a long time for me) which is probably another reason it is not my go-to style.

The Old Letter Writing stamp from Hero Arts is white embossed on a piece of vellum and layered over the pretty paper. I used paper from three different, 6x6 paper pads: Dear Lizzy, Neapolitan from American Crafts, Paper Cottage from Basic Grey and The Sweetest Thing from My Mind's Eye. The die-cut doilies are from Die-Namics and the flowers and ribbons came from my stash.

I do love the way it turned out and will be sending it to a special friend. And since I embossed the Old Letter Writing on the vellum, I'll be entering this into the "Who's the Boss" challenge over at A Blog Named Hero.

Thanks for stopping by! :)

Hello Barb
4 hours!!!! In my creative day that is not long at all.
Did you enjoy the process Barb? Looking at this card I would venture a guess and say you did.
It has an ethereal quality, it is delicate and soft, your light to mid-tone palette creates a mellow mood; it is charming.
The eye travels all over the card and it likes what it sees.
A gorgeous card.
Smiles:)

Oh, Barb! This card is just so beautiful! I love everything about it. The colors are so soft and with the doilies and vellum it makes it so feminine, too. I just bought a MME paper pad with a lot of pinks in it - can't wait to make a card for my daughter's birthday with it. (Don't be surprised if it has a doily or two!!)

Isn't it funny how we struggle sometimes? But design is a process and sometimes it comes more slowly than others. This is a serious stretch for you, I see it - but a glorious result! Good for you for the self-challenge! Love the softness and layers.
